Pool Update + Opening Info!
Monday: Aiming for 6/9 at 12:00–8:30 PM
Stay tuned!
Just a quick reminder — our pool is volunteer-run.
Wednesday, 6/4
The leak detection company finally arrived and—praise be—found the source of the problem. They marked the leaky spots, which (surprise!) are underground. So now we get the privilege of smashing up concrete like DIY demolition pros.
At first, the plan was to wrangle April’s excavator and recruit four brave souls to start digging like it was their last day on Earth.
But, thankfully, sanity prevailed. Libby came through with a real professional crew scheduled for Friday. No graves were dug in the making of this decision.
Thursday, 6/5
Because we weren’t dealing with enough, the pool pumps decided to go out with a bang—literally bursting and shorting out.

Silver lining? We got fresh parking lines and a shiny new mailbox installed. Goodbye, P.O. Box life. Special shoutout to Shawn!
Friday, 6/6
The repair crew arrived bright and early and... surprise again! The leak isn’t in the inlet like we all hoped. Nope—it’s in the massive 4” pipe that connects all the inlets. And just for fun, it cracked at a corner (not a seam, because that would be too easy). This makes repairs about as simple as open-heart surgery during a thunderstorm.
Oh, and it’s still underwater, so yes—we get to drain the pool again.

Now, here’s where it really gets spicy: the repair isn’t just about gluing some PVC together. We need a pressure-rated 45-degree Schedule 40 fitting—not to be confused with your average hardware store elbow joint. Add in two pressure couplings, and you’ve got a plumbing scavenger hunt no weekend warrior wants to be on.
So here’s the tentative good news: Monday is our target open date. That’s the latest—it all hinges on whether the crew can locate this unicorn of a fitting and come back tomorrow. Now we’ve got to keep draining this bottomless pool of mystery.
Saturday, 6/7
The plumber returned and managed to fix the main leak (cue hopeful music), but wait—there’s more! Another sneaky leak was discovered lurking just beneath the fitting, mocking our optimism. They didn’t have the specific connector needed on hand (of course), so they’ll be back Monday for Round ∞.
In a plot twist no one saw coming, we also had them check out the storm sewer and sinkhole situation. Because if you're gonna call a plumber, might as well ask about every subterranean nightmare at once.
Decision made: opening is now set for Tuesday. Cue the dramatic sighs and reset the countdown clocks.
Monday, 6/9
Victory at last! The plumbers returned, fixed all the leaks, and even poured the concrete. YAY! The pool began to fill with glorious, glistening water... until a transformer exploded across the street like it was trying to get the final word in. Power flickered like a horror movie scene—on, off, on again, off again... until finally it stayed on. Drama queen.
Swim team practice resumes Wednesday 6/11, and we’re officially opening the pool at noon on Tuesday 6/10! So grab your floaties, fluff your towels, and prepare to dip your toes—because after one wild saga of pipes, fittings, floods, concrete, and power outages...
This concludes the final log of the Pool Leak Chronicles. What’s next? Hopefully nothing but cannonballs, sunscreen, and good old-fashioned poolside fun.
Thanks to everyone for your patience, humor, and unwavering support during this plumbing adventure. Time to kick back, relax, and enjoy the water.
